Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States, was born on February 12, 1809, in Hardin County, Kentucky. He was the first president to be assassinated. He was shot at Ford's Theatre in Washington DC, on April 14, 1865, and died the next day. The Civil War took place during Lincoln's presidency, and he is known for the Emancipation Proclamation, the Gettysburg Address, and a proclamation designating the last Thursday in November as Thanksgiving Day.
