On November 19, 1831, James Garfield was born in Orange, Ohio. He was the twentieth president of the United States. He was the last president born in a log cabin, and he loved to read books. Garfield was shot by Charles J. Guiteau in the Washington, D.C. railway station, and he later died on September 19, 1881, in Elberon, New Jersey.
