On January 1, 1752, Betsy Ross was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The name given to her when she was born was Elizabeth Griscom, but she later became known as Betsy Ross. According to historic legend, the needle worker created the first stars and stripes flag in 1775, under instruction from George Washington.
