Joseph-Jacques Jean Chretien was born in Shawinigan, Quebec, on January 1, 1934. He was the first French-Canadian minister of finance. He created 10 national parks as minister of indian affairs and northern development. He also was involved in preparing the 1982 Constitution Act, including the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
